Benefits of Bone Broth

If you have been following my page for some time now, you know my love for bone broth. I like to refer to it as “nature’s multivitamin”. Bone broth is rich in glycine, an amino acid that the cells in our gut need to regenerate; proline, which helps support our collagen production; and L-glutamine, which strengthens the interstitial barrier. Studies show that amino acid-rich gelatin which is found in bone broth is excellent for healing and sealing the gut. If you use all organic ingredients, you’ll be making a delicious organic chicken bone broth recipe. It’s especially important to opt for organic bones to avoid factory-farmed meats. If you’re really short on time, you can always purchase high-quality bone broth like Bone Brew House from your local grocer or health food store.

What is bone broth?

It is extremely nutrient-dense, easy to digest, rich in flavor and boosts healing. Organic bones, marrow, tendons and ligaments are boiled and then simmered over a period of days. This simmering process causes the bones and ligaments to release healing compounds like collagen, proline, glycine and glutamine that have the power to transform your health.

What are the benefits of consuming bone broth?

  1. Boosts gut health: Studies show that gelatin is beneficial for restoring strength of the gut lining and fighting food sensitivities, such as wheat or dairy. It also helps with the growth of good bacteria found in the gut and helps reduce inflammation in the digestive tract. Collagen is the main structural protein found within the human body that helps form connective tissue and “seals” the protective lining of the GI tract. Irritation within the gut impairs digestive functions and allows particles to pass into the bloodstream, known as “leaky gut”. Bone broth is rich in gelatin which protects and seals the mucosal lining of the GI tract. Helping improve nutrient absorption and keeping particles from leaching out where they shouldn’t be. Gelatin in bone broths contains amino acids; arginine, glycine, glutamine and proline. These amino acids contribute to the stock's highly nutritious healing properties.

  2. Maintains skin health: Collagen helps form elastin and other compounds within skin that are responsible for maintaining skin’s youthful texture and appearance. Collagen helps reduce the visible signs of wrinkles, skin laxity and aging. Collagen is known to help improve skin moisture and hydration, hyaluronic acid found throughout connective tissues within the skin. This allows our cells to perform various functions throughout the body as needed. Collagen offers support for multiple skin types and promotes healthy aging, cell rejuvenation and skin firmness.

  3. Supports immune system function: Bone broth is one of the most beneficial foods to consume to restore gut health, support immune system function and healthy inflammation response. Collagen and the amino acids proline, glutamine and arginine help seal these openings in the gut lining and help support the gut.

  4. Boosts detoxification: Today in the Western world, the average person is exposed to many environmental toxins, pesticides, artificial ingredients and chemicals. While the human body has its own way of detoxifying itself from heavy metals, it often has a hard time keeping up when flooded with an overwhelming amount of chemicals.

  5. Bone broth is considered a powerful detoxification agent since it helps the digestive system excrete waste and promotes the liver’s ability to remove toxins. It also improves the body’s use of antioxidants. Bone broth stock contains potassium and glycine, which supports cellular and liver detoxification. Glutathione found in bone broth helps with elimination of fat-soluble compounds. It also helps with the absorption of nutrients, the use of antioxidants and with liver-cleansing functions. Bone broth increases the absorption essential minerals, which help to remove toxins by stopping heavy metals from attaching to mineral receptor sites

How to make your own bone broth:

There are a few important basics to consider when making good stock. Studies show that the combination of animal products and vegetables, working together to be more beneficial than either alone. I use bone broth as a soup base in my Gut Healing Lemon Dill Chicken Soup. https://dishingwithtay.squarespace.com/config/?frameUrl=%2Fshop%2Fp%2Ffood-with-benefits You want to ensure you are buying animal products that you know are pasture-fed and free of antibiotics and hormones in order to truly unlock all the bone broth benefits.
